Mosque of Mecca "Mataf Extension"

Description:
An additional floor is build around the main sanctuary of the Kaaba (Mataf Extension). It consists of floors spanning 15 m and main concrete beams with cross section 2,2m / 3, 6m. To allow the use of the areas below the new floor during construction, wide-span steel girders instead of conventional scaffolding are used to support wet concrete weight during concrete casting. Aside from design of steel girders, further focus was put on erection planning and design changes during construction which were carried out under high time pressure.
